My Wifi isn't connecting

Having problems connecting to your Wifi connection? Here is a simple guide on how to get your iPad back online in no time. It's easy once you know how!

One of the best things about the iPad is its versatility, and the ability to access the internet is a pretty important part of that. There are two separate connectivity options, though; depending on the model you're purchased.


If your iPad is 3G-capable, then you'll be able to use your cellular data plan to get online. However, if you opted not to buy the 3G-powered model or you're simply wary of using up your data plan, you can connect to a Wi-Fi network instead.


How to connect to Wi-Fi

  • Check that Wi-Fi connectivity is enabled and that you're properly connected to the network - You can do this by tapping the settings icon and then turning the connection on by tapping the Wi-Fi on/off icon. Assuming there are Wi-Fi connections available in your location, these will appear under the 'Choose a Network' option. You can then select the network you wish to connect to by simply tapping it.
  • If the Wi-Fi network isn't showing up on your iPad screen, it's possible that it's a closed or private network - in which case you'll have to enter its name in order to connect. Some Wi-Fi networks require a password to join, and these will be indicated by the padlock icon.
  • The more bars appear in the status bar or Wi-Fi menu, the stronger your connection is. If the connection is weak, you might want to try moving closer to the router, or avoiding potential sources of interference (such as concrete walls, microwave ovens). Removing your iPad from its case can also help in this situation.
  • If the signal appears to be strong but you're still having trouble connecting, check again that you're definitely connecting to the right network or check the cable connection to the access point or router.

 

Trouble shooting your Wi-Fi Issues on your iPad

 

If you are still having problems there are a number of things you can do with your iPad to help:


Try turning off and back on your Wi-Fi connection – resetting your network can sometimes help with a weak signal. You can also reset the networking settings on your iPad, by selecting Settings > Genera Reset


Apple also suggests opening the Safari browser and try to load a web page to see if the signal improves.
