One of the most common - and frustrating - problems that many iPad users experience is when their device freezes up and stubbornly refuses to respond to their commands. You may be relieved to learn, however, that getting it working again should be relatively simple. Here's a step-by-step guide to what you should do:

  • Try rebooting your iPad. You can do this simply by holding down both the sleep/wake button at the top of the device and the Home button at the bottom. Once you've held both continuously for a few seconds, you should find the iPad powers down.
  • When the screen's gone dark for a few seconds, just power it back up by holding the sleep/wake button down. You should then find that the Apple logo appears as the iPad starts to boot up again.
  • If there's a particular app which you think is causing the problem, then it might be a good idea to simply reinstall it. Delete the app by holding your finger on the icon until the X appears in the top right-hand corner. Touch the X to delete the app.
  • Then, all you have do to is head to the app store and try installing it again. You'll find that there's a tab on your screen marked 'Purchased' - this is where you'll find the app, along with all the others you've acquired in the past. Just download the app you've deleted and reinstall it.

If problems continue to persist, then you might want to consider restoring your iPad to factory settings. Use iTunes to back up your iPad data before you do this, so you can then simply transfer across your old data once you've restored the device.
