Is This How the iPhone 6 Could Look?Dale Wright
The iPhone 6 isn’t likely to be released until fall 2014 but thanks to one designer, we can now see what Apple’s next smartphone might look like.
Federico Ciccarese has put together concepts of how the iPhone 6 could look, based on recent reports of a bigger and slimmer design. The designer has created concept artwork of the iPhone 6 in two sizes – 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch display options – seen alongside the iPhone 5S for comparison.
Both sizes of the iPhone 6 mock-up have kept the aspect ratio of 16:9, the display type seen in the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5S. Ciccarese has shown how the iPhone 6 would look if the screen goes from edge to edge with no bezel, as has been long rumored. The larger screen size means that the 4.7 inch version of the smartphone has five icons across its Home screen and the 5.5 inch handset has six icons, in comparison to just four icons on previous incarnations of the iPhone.
The concept iPhone 6 is also much thinner than the iPhone 5S and features a curved, brushed aluminium back. The rear camera has also been centralized, a pretty big departure from the iPhone’s usual camera position of top left. The Touch ID sensor can be seen on the Home button, suggesting that Apple is planning to keep on the fingerprint reader feature in its next smartphone device.
The images are only mock-ups of how the iPhone 6 could look, but how close to the truth could they be? If Apple does launch a bigger, thinner smartphone, will this be want its fans want? It’s probably more likely to happen than Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak’s suggestion over the weekend, that the company could make an Android smartphone. That’s definitely unlikely, though not impossible – the thinner iPhone 6 design seems much more probable.
