Apple App Store to Turn Five! Check Out the Top iPhone AppsDale Wright
Tomorrow (10th July) is the Apple App Store’s fifth birthday, and they’re giving away ten free apps to mark the occasion.
Can you believe it’s been five years since the App Store launched, alongside the release of the iPhone 3G? It’s now an integral part of the iPad and iPhone experience, and you can’t imagine owning an Apple device without them. To celebrate five years of the App Store, you can now download some popular apps for free, that are normally premium paid apps.
The game apps you can get for nothing are Frogmind’s Badland, Chair Entertainment’s Infinity Blade II, Capybara Games’ Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP (normally $4.99), Andreas Illiger’s Tiny Wings and Tiny Wings HD, and Disney’s Where’s My Water? There’s also five other apps available for free: Barefoot World Atlas, Day One’s journal, How to Cook Everything, Over’s photo editor, and Traktor DJ.
Make sure you snap these apps up ASAP, before the promotion ends!
Apple has also released a list of its most downloaded apps ever. Angry Birds is (predictably) a clear number one in the premium iPhone apps, with Fruit Ninja and Doodle Jump taking second and third places. In the free iPhone apps, Facebook took the top spot, with Pandora and Instagram closely following behind.
Angry Birds also took three of the top ten spots for premium iPad apps, proving just how much of an impact the game has made on our popular culture.
The App Store turns five tomorrow, so make sure you get your free apps before they go. What are your memories of the Apple App store, and what apps have made a real difference to your lives? Let us know in the comments below!
